Caroline Conrad

Director of Experience

Describe your path to Grovehouse. How did you end up with the GH family?
Following an intense but educational 8 years working my way up the ladder for a well-known restaurant group in NYC, I decided to take a brief leave from the industry and try my hand in wine sales. It was a valuable experience, but I desperately missed working in restaurants. In the early Spring of 2018, I received a phone call from Sean [Feeney] asking if I would be interested in joining the GH team as opening General Manager of Misi. I said yes, and the rest is history!

What was your first job in the restaurant industry?
In 2006, I began my career in restaurants as a Host/Server (at the same time!) at Ritz Seafood in Voorhees, NJ. It recently closed but was a beloved pre-movie theater spot in South Jersey. The Chef was famous for his coconut cream pie.

Words of wisdom for those who are new to the restaurant industry?
In no particular order: be kind, listen, follow through on your word, be grateful for (and learn from) constructive criticism, and lean on your colleagues!

Favorite comfort meal?
Fish & Chips.

Strongest trivia category?
Early 90’s alt rock.

Go-to karaoke song?
I have two! Galileo by the Indigo Girls, La Isla Bonita by Madonna.

Favorite Instagram account?
@kevinbacon.

How do you find your "calm'?
If I am lucky enough to spend an entire day in relaxation-mode, then I make sure to carve out time with my husband, Aaron, and my dog, Franklin. They make life so much fun. I’ll usually incorporate many walks, a run, a novel, lots of music and a Gimlet into the mix too!

How do you manage stress?
Running (while listening to film scores) is the ultimate stress reliever before or after a busy day!  In the midst of a stressful LIVE situation, I find that getting a moment of peace, either outside or in a quiet place in the restaurant is helpful. Glancing at a meaningful quote to gain some immediate perspective can also do the trick if you’re short on time.
